in 2011, a being from the void composed of anti-matter would gain sentience, and travel to earth out of curiosity. from that point, it would develop a fascination with humankind, and the various technologies they've created. soon it created a realm and physical form for itself, all modeled after a video game, sonic the hedgehog, which it developed a deep fondness for. the entity named herself "X", and by utilizing a game disk as a gateway to her world, X began to drag the souls of humans into her twisted game. where they would be forced to play along for as long as X desires.

MX's origins lie within an ordinary human named maxine, who was murdered by petty thieves in the arcade she owned. after enacting revenge on her murderers, maxine found that she couldn't pass on, and wanted to reunite with her family. this lead to her spirit possessing a game cartridge, mario 85', and creating MX through stealing the visage of the main character. MX would then take the soul of maxine's son, lucas, and drag him into the game. where the two of them could play forever.

ㅤㅤAUG. 16TH, 2011.ㅤㅤafter reaching earth, the mass found itself drawn to the planet's electronics. latching onto phones, computers, televisions, game consoles, and more. hopping around and absorbing information from one piece of technology to the next. out of everything the mass saw, the lines of code and colorful pixels of video games were what caught it's attention the most. a burst of consciousness occurred, and the mass felt it's first emotion upon wishing to create a physical form: desire.taking on the appearance of a small blue hedgehog, the former mass of antimatter opened their eyes, and met with their creation, yokubo, who would become their first guardian. happy birthday, Lord X.

ㅤㅤJUL. 24TH, 2013.ㅤㅤwith his foster family away at work, fourteen year old alan sneaks out of the house to visit his best friend, alice, for the weekend. his foster parents had him on a strict curfew since two of his classmates, tom and kyle, were reported to have gone missing. but with the two of them working, there was nothing stopping him from staying at alice's and playing video games together. she had told him in class the day before about an odd game she got in the mail, a CD simply labeled "SONIC" on the front of it. alice figured her father must have ordered her some bootleg game off ebay for a cheap price, and wanted alan to come over so they could play the game together, hoping to get a good laugh if her assumption was right.

before MX existed as he does now, his origins began as a mere human named maxine. growing up, maxine often lived in the shadow of her twin brother, mark. their parents would berate their daughter for her odd quirks and habits, and found her interests in computers and programming to be "unfitting" for someone like her, choosing to dote on mark instead. despite the support from her brother, the treatment from their parents lead to maxine becoming withdrawn and self-destructive. coming home with black eyes and bruises from getting into fights at school, and as she entered adulthood, getting blackout drunk at college parties and waking up in the beds of strangers.maxine's life shifted when she found out she'd be having a child. wanting to give her child a good life, she began to focus on getting herself together and in a better place. with the help of her brother, who landed a job in carpentry, she was able to open an arcade in the town she lived in. maxine's arcade became decently popular with the townsfolk, and she was able to live comfortably after her son, lucas, was born.her peaceful life with her son didn't last long, however. as a group of thieves had gotten a tip about a local arcade, which was usually being run by a single person. maxine had been alone the night they decided to break in, mark having brought lucas along for a weekend trip, and was unable to fend them off long enough to call for help. the arcade owner was promptly beaten and tortured until the robbers grew bored, shoving her body in a supply closet to bleed out while they ransacked the arcade for cash and anything worth pawning off. mark and lucas had returned two days later, discovering the arcade in shambles, and the decaying body of their sister and mother.maxine found herself unable to move on after her death. she was enraged at the fact that she was ripped away from her beloved son, her brother who supported her, and the life she finally began to enjoy. one by one, her vengeful spirit had gone on to haunt and kill those who had taken her life. all of them dying brutally through electrical related accidents, as she was drawn to technology even in death. though even after all her killers were dead, maxine still wasn't satisfied. she missed her family more than anything, and all she wanted was for them to be together again.
a solution had been found through the release of a brand new video game, mario 85', and it was easy enough for her tainted soul to attach itself to the game's code. realistically, maxine knew her family would never be able to forgive her for what she was about to do, but what won in the end was the monstrous part of her that wanted her family back at any cost. she decided to embrace that side of her as she took mario's character to use as a vessel, creating a new identity as MX.mark was the first to be pulled into MX's game, with him having bought the copy himself to send to lucas. a *high voltage electrocution *as he popped in the cartridge to test the game, was all it took for his life to end, and his soul to be placed in the vessel of a toad. lucas himself had been next, the eight year old child having been sent to live with his neglectful birth father and step-mother after maxine's death, was excited to recieve a gift from his uncle mark in the mail. the shiny new video game was popped into his NES immediately, but the title screen never appeared on the tv. instead, the shadowed face of a large, mustached man faded into the dark screen, and lucas heard a voice that he thought belonged to his mother...
"You're just going to go to sleep for a bit. Don't worry, the lights don't hurt."
an epileptic seizure from flashing colors on the television is what killed lucas in the end, his soul then pulled into the game and placed in the vessel of luigi.since then, MX has lived a happy, eternal life from within his game. spending time forever playing "games" with his family victims, and subjecting those who happen to obtain his copy of mario 85' to the same torture. he dislikes acknowledging or being confronted with his past as maxine, and chooses to keep his former life a secret while existing as he is now. although his existence is tied to his game, MX is able to manifest physically in the real world, and will sometimes drift off to explore other realities.

it was difficult to recover when you couldn't even begin to speak about what was wrong. the use of her voice, a handwritten note, typing letters in a text message, every attempt to talk about what had happened with her friends always ended in failure. she knew they were all growing tired of her. her friends never showed it, of course. amy, tails, theia, knuckles, they all wore the same patient smiles, but patience could only last for so long. everyone had to move on with their lives eventually, and nikki knew that by this point, the truth may not be handled lightly.the rotten corpse of doctor eggman spits blood as he laughs manically at her, his pallid body riddled with maggots, and still pierced by the shrapnel that killed him. both nikki and her delusion knew she was only avoiding the outcome she deserved: her friends abandoning her.
the only one she felt comfortable enough to talk to about everything, was X. her best friend, and maybe something more. they didn't mind that she had killed someone, X themself had killed many. they provided comfort during her low moods, and were endeared by her darker humor. and when her friends inevitably abandoned her, they promised to never leave her side.one thing that always brought nikki comfort, was whenever she truly felt ready to leave this world, she knew she could give up her soul to X, and go peacefully.
even if they couldn't promise her a painless death, she'd die happy and content, knowing a piece of herself is held by someone she L∞VED with all her heart.
